A big anniversary for a small town on the island of Krk.
Many regular and occasional visitors to the island of Krk are surprised to hear that the small town of Punat on the island of Krk will this year mark 110 years of tourism. The anniversary will be celebrated with an interesting programme that will last all summer, and the final event will be a free concert by Croatian singer Petar Grašo on 31 August.
The celebrations began on 25 June with a folklore evening organised by the Punat Culture and Folk Society, which was held on the main town square. Starting from 27 June, excellent outdoor yoga workshops are being held three times a week under the expert leadership of Svjetlana Radovčić. They are free of charge. On the Medane beach at 8.00 every Monday and Friday, you can see people in seemingly weird but actually very healthy body positions. The same group can be found on Wednesdays next to the Kanajt hotel swimming pool.
The third edition of the Velvet Festival is being held this weekend at the Marušina Olive Hills eco-camp. After two successful editions and more than 70 performers and 200 artists who appeared on the stage of the Velvet Festival, this year will feature a number of interesting musical acts, such as Jonathan, DJ Bellen, and many others. Still, the most interesting name is Aquaserge, a kind of “superband” with members of bands such as Tame Impala, Stereolab, Melody’s Echo Chamber, April March and Aksak Maboul. They have already performed at festivals such as Reeperbahn Festival, Transmusicales, and Liverpool Psych Fest, always and without exception to the great satisfaction of the audiences.
The fans of electronic music will appreciate the fact that this year’s festival will also include Ilija Rudman, “the leading force of the Croatian underground disco and house scene for the last 15 years,” as the organisers like to describe him.
Some of the biggest attractions of the Velvet Festival the “boat parties.” This year there will be two of those, both organised in cooperation with the “More” tourist agency, and with some of the most promising Croatian club programmes, such as TIPSY & Mile Voli Disko.
On Saturday, the so-called “Barufe va dragi” will be held, a series of fun games in the sea and on the land, while in Punat the Petrovo tradition will be continued, including a special mass and a performance by the Rašketa a cappella singing group.
On Sunday, at the Škrila camp in Stara Baška, the Kaštata a cappella singing group will perform a promenade concert.
