ZAGREB, May 10, 2018 – The Environment Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund on Thursday presented a newly established cadastre of speleological sites, listing about 1,200 caves and pits, and the long term goal is to include more than 9,000 explored sites in Croatia.
The cadastre was made possible through a three-year project aimed at enhancing the quality of data and technical infrastructure of the Nature Protection Information System (ISZP), including the development and integration of Croatia’s speleological cadastre in order to efficiently implement the Natura 2000 project in Croatia.
The project is valued at four million kuna, of which three million kuna came from the Environment Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund. It was implemented by the Croatian Environment and Nature Agency.
Environment Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund director Dubravko Ponoš said that to date 1,200 sites have been entered into the cadastre and that the aim of the project is to include all 9,000 explored speleological sites.
The cadastre has a spatial component for data browsing which can be accessed by authorised speleologists, the Interior Ministry and the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service.
