The drive was part of the “Green Day” initiative throughout Croatia.

As part of the socially responsible project “Kaufland School of Fruit and Vegetables”, which will see Kaufland donate nearly 120 tons of fresh fruit and vegetables to children in primary schools by the end of this school year, another charity initiative has been launched, reports tportal.hr on tportal.hr on September 28, 2018.

At 40 locations across the country, Kaufland employees volunteered and landscaped the environment. Many of them visited their partner schools where they landscaped the school gardens and their surroundings. In order to do this, the retail chain donated over 2,000 different plans and tools worth nearly 50,000 kuna. Some employees volunteered in cooperation with the Croatian Red Cross, for example, by cleaning beaches and landscaping local parks. All Kaufland employees who applied for the project and demonstrated that they care about humanitarian initiatives received a paid work day and a thank you note.

One of those supporting the project is the well-known TV personality and the mother of a three-year-old child Marijana Batinić. “Children today live less and less in touch with nature, so the project launched by Kaufland has been a great opportunity to show them important values. I think this is an excellent example for parents as well. We can see that we should teach our children that there is great value in things given to us by Earth, and we, therefore, have to protect it,” Marijana said.

Vladimir Tomko, CEO of Kaufland Croatia, explained the reasons for the project. “With this national initiative, we want to draw attention to the preservation of the environment. More than 200 our employees participated and I want to thank them. In other areas of our business, we also carry out measures related to environmental and climate protection. Environmental awareness of our company can be seen even at the design stage of new outlets, where we apply energy-efficient technologies and systems which follow global trends.”

Kaufland employees have demonstrated they have a large heart. More info about the project can be found here.
