As Morski writes on the 7th of February, 2020, at the end of February, e-bikes will be available in Rijeka at four locations (Adriatic Square (Jadranski trg), Susak Bridge (Susacki most), at the Youth Hall (Dvorane mladosti) and on the plateau of the garage of the Kantrida Pool). Meet Ricikleta!
Rijeka’s new e-bikes were provided with their name (Ricikleta) by the staff of the Department for Development, Urbanism, Ecology and Land Management. It is a combination of the words Rijeka and bicycle. The graphic design of the bikes was entrusted to designer Vesna Rozman. 28 e-bikes were purchased, seven at each of the aforementioned Rijeka locations.
The following tariff system for the use of the brand new Ricikleta e-bikes is proposed:
During the winter period it is possible to use then from 06:00 to 22:00,
During the summer period (April the 15th to October the 15th) from 06:00 to 23:00;
The new Ricikleta e-bikes can be used for up to three hours and the price per hour is ten kuna.
You must use the GO2BIKE application to use the Ricikleta e-bikes. All you need to know about renting and/or using the e-bikes is fully described in the instruction manual.
The Ricikleta e-bike can be used by any adult who has paid for the bike’s rental via a QRPay code. The e-bike can be used for a maximum of three hours in a continuous time, that is, before the expiry of the three-hour period the user is obliged to return the e-bike to one of the stations located at the Youth Hall, at the Kantrida Pool, at Susak bridge and on Adriatic Square.
The ricikleta e-bikes must be used within the administrative boundaries of the City of Rijeka.
All information for Ricikleta users will be available through the website of ricikleta.rijeka.hr, which will become fully active at the same time as the e-bikes are commissioned for the City of Rijeka.
The project for the introduction of the e-bike system was launched back in 2017 with the application from the City of Rijeka to the public invitation of the Tourism Infrastructure Development Fund of the Ministry of Tourism, based on the previously prepared study on the introduction of an e-bike system in Rijeka.
The introduction of these public bicycles gives a concrete contribution to the development of alternative forms of sustainable mobility – the use of electric bicycles or electric romobiles – scooters as small vehicles for short distance travel, and since the Ricikleta is obtained via an app, it also provides for the introduction of smart system mobility.
The preparations included equipping e-bike terminals (stations) along with their respective racks at four locations (Adriatic Square, Susak bridge, at the Youth Hall and on the plateau of the garage of the Kantrida Pool) and the procurement of the Ricikleta e-bikes themselves. Upon completion of the procurement and works in December 2019, the Ministry of Tourism had co-financed a total of 195,280.00 kuna.
The maintenance and management of the system during 2020 has been contracted with companies that are also suppliers of equipment (Hrvatski Telekom d.d. and ULJANIK TESU-ELEKTRONIKA d.o.o.), and the billing system has been ensured through business cooperation with GO2BIKE d.o.o. Pula.
The aforementioned parts of the project were completed by the end of January 2020, and the system should, as stated, become operational in February. In the coming period, the plan is to reintegrate the location on the Rijeka breakwater into the system, which will increase the availability of this service in the city centre area. The total value of the project is 1.3 million kuna.
