An unhappy ballerina leaves Split.

Romanian ballerina Alexandra Bertea, who in early December filed a complaint to the theatre management against ballet director Dinko Bogdanić because he was yelling and insulting her during rehearsals, has left the Croatian National Theatre in Split and has signed a contract with a theatre in Sarajevo, reports Index.hr on January 5, 2015.

Public Relations Office of the Croatian National Theatre in Split confirmed that the ballerina had been offered a new contract, but she informed the management and the union that she will continue her professional career in other theatres, including the one in Sarajevo.

Union president Damir Punda said that Alexandra Bertea talked with him before leaving for Sarajevo and that she thanked him for everything that he and the union have done for her after she was insulted during rehearsals for The Nutcracker. “As far as the reason for her departure from the theatre is concerned, she said that Dinko Bogdanić is still the director and that she cannot continue with further professional cooperation. The situation within the ballet company continues to be very bad. Dancers are subject to pressures and manipulation. The company is divided and that has created a bad atmosphere. However, despite everything, our performances are very popular and we have several very successful ballets in our repertoire”, Punda said.

Alexandra Bertea reported Dinko Bogdanić in December to the Employee Council and to her union because of the shouting and insults. She has also informed the Romanian ambassador in Zagreb about everything, who then asked director of the Croatian National Theatre in Split Goran Golovko to investigate what happened. The similar request has been made by the Ministry of Culture as well. Theatre Council then decided that Dinko Bogdanić, who has apologized for the incident, will be issued a final warning before dismissal.

Theatre director Goran Golovko informed the Romanian Ambassador about the latest events and has expressed regret over what happened.
