One of the best known private health care institutions in Croatia opened their first facility in Istria
After more than two decades of successfully operating in Rijeka, Specialty Hospital Medico opened a branch in Pula on Wednesday, reports Glas Istre on October 25, 2017.
Founded in 1991, Medico is known as one of the first private health care facilities in Croatia. Nowadays, it disposes of state-of-the-art medical equipment used in diagnostics and therapy, specialises in minimally invasive surgery, and has an experienced professional team with 24 various specialisations and subspecialisations.
“The best go to the best”, stated Nevenka Kovač, the director of the Specialty Hospital Medico. At the opening ceremony, she remarked that she believes Medico can and will improve the quality of service even further. According to Kovač, Istrians have been coming to Medico in Rijeka for 25 years, and she’s happy about the opening of the first branch in Istria that will now bring Medico to them in return. The hospital will officially start operating on November 2.
The founder of Medico Miroslav Reljanović said their wish was to bring to Istria what they have been doing in Rijeka for 25 years. He stated that integration of public and private health care is the only right way to take, as they should not be seen as mutual competition, but should unite in helping people instead. Director of the General Hospital in Pula, Irena Hrstić, agrees with him in that regard: “Healthy competition is always a good thing, the sky is the limit”, she said. Another poetic line came from Pula Mayor Boris Miletić, who said that [in Istria] “they strive for excellence, as they are too small to be average”.
Reljanović also remarked that Medico would gladly act as a strategic partner in health tourism development, especially in Istria.
Specialty Hospital Medico has thus brought their impressively broad scope of services to another region. They are known for their motto ‘in one day, at one place’, as they provide patients with medical exams, carry out tests, and provide a diagnose and a treatment plan in a span of a few hours. Medico currently employs 102 people, 50 of them doctors; they have had 40.000 patients in the last year alone. They are the only health institution in Croatia to hold the internationally renowned AACI Certificate of Excellence.
