The latest on the ‘Dalmatia Tower’, which is expected to house Croatia’s first Marriott hotel.
US Ambassador to Croatia Robert Kohorst visited the under construction ‘Dalmatia Tower’ on Sunday, where the first Marriott hotel in Croatia will be located. This week, a court decision is expected on the fate of the main contractor at the facility, Tehnika d.d., after which it will be known whether they will continue constructing the tallest object in Croatia, or if the construction will be taken over by another contractor, reports Poslovni.hr on October 22, 2018.
Instead of next year, the hotel will now open in 2020
“We are sorry about the situation Tehnika is in, cooperation was very good, but we want to finish the project as soon as possible. With every day that passes, not only is our company at a loss but so is all of Split because it is an open construction site located at the very entrance to the city. Despite the business problems, we have a binding construction contract with the main contractor, which has led us into the situation that instead of 2019, the first Croatian Marriott will receive its first guests in the 2020 season,” said Josip Komar, President of the Management Board the investor company, Westgate Tower d.o.o.
As it is the first direct investment of Marriott International in Croatia, the US Ambassador to Croatia, Robert Kohorst, arrived on a visit to the construction site on Sunday. Accompanied by Mr. Komar and Marija Grabovac, Director of Development at Westgate Tower d.o.o, the ambassador visited the existing tower and the site of the ‘Dalmatia Tower’. The ambassador expressed pleasure about what he saw and gave his personal support to the investor.
With a new contractor or not, construction will resume in November
By the end of the month, a court ruling is expected to define the business status of the shareholding company Tehnika, which for decades has been of one of the leading construction companies in the domestic and foreign markets.
“We are also talking to other potential contractors in the event of their inability to continue the construction. With an existing or new contractor, construction will continue in November,” Komar replied to the question as to what would happen if Tehnika was unable to continue on the project.
The Marriott will be the tallest building in Croatia
As is already known, the “Gate of Split” project consists of two buildings, the first of which has a ground floor and 12 floors and is currently the home of the integrated OTP Bank of Croatia. The second tower will consist of the ground floor and 27 floors, and with a total of 115 meters, will be the tallest building in Croatia.
The Courtyard by Marriott, a world-renowned business brand of Marriott International, will be located on the upper floors, from the 16th to 26th, and each of the 190 rooms and four suites will have a sea view. There are also conference facilities on a separate floor, a wellness center with a gym, hospitality facilities and a viewpoint for citizens and visitors at the very top of the tower.
