Ivo Baldasar bans an exhibition about Split’s homeless.
Mayor of Split Ivo Baldasar has decided to ban the exhibition about the homeless which the MoSt Association wanted to present in the city centre. They asked for permission to place 15 cardboard figures of homeless people next to street lamps, but have received only verbal response that the city would not allow it, reports Index.hr on December 12, 2015.
It is possible that Mayor Baldasar did not want to see homeless people in the centre of the city, which has been for some time decorated in the spirit of Christmas holidays, with kiosks on the waterfront and Prokurative working day and night.
After the City Hall rejected its application, MoSt activists have brought the cardboard figures to the city centre, photographed them and published the photos on Facebook.
“We are really sorry that this has happened, because now the controversy in the media will obscure our message. We wanted to organize the exhibition on the Human Rights Day, but the city refused to allow us to continue with our project. I really do not know if there is a regulation which would prohibit the placement of cardboard figures next to street lamps, but we have not received any official response in writing. We wanted to show that homeless people are here, among us, and that they are part of this city. We have planned to present the exhibition in other cities as well, especially in those which have no shelters for the homeless”, said Đordana Barbarić, president of MoSt Association.
