The app that might revolutionise parking in Split has raised interest of the Armenian capital
Split Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara visited Yerevan on Friday, October 13, as part of a celebration for the 2799th founding anniversary of the Armenian capital. Opara met with his colleague, Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, and presented the project ‘Split – smart city parking’, reports Poslovni dnevnik on October 14, 2017.
As part of the project, 1300 sensors will be installed around the city, providing information about available parking spots on a convenient smartphone app. Opara recently called the project “a first step towards digitalisation of the city”; the app will hopefully help the local population and visitors find free parking spaces more quickly and reduce traffic jams in the city.
The mayor of Erevan was more than interested for ‘smart city parking’, as the city is home to more than a third of the Armenian population – 1.4 million residents – along with a large number of tourists. According to Opara, he can look forward to a specific conversation about the smart parking app that was recently presented in Split and has now raised interest of the Armenian capital.
According to a statement issued by the City of Split, Mayor Opara also discussed protection of cultural heritage during his visit to Yerevan, as both cities are inscribed into the UNESCO registry. Opara is about to enter bilateral discussions with the mayor and the governor of Saint Petersburg, as well as delegations from Rostov, Glendale (Los Angeles) and Warsaw, all of whom are currently present in Yerevan.
“There’s only one topic on the daily agenda: how to manage cities which are facing new challenges when it comes to safety, sustainable development, ecology and urban planning. This is a common trait we all share, and we’re all facing similar difficulties”, said Opara.
