New traffic and pedestrian regulations as Stradun becomes “Stardun”

We’ve all been talking about it for months and now it’s finally here. On March 9, 2016, filming of Star Wars Episode VIII will commence in Dubrovnik with the closing of the set and first rehearsals. Stradun, Dubrovnik’s main street and the heart of the city will be closed for public until March 17th and it is probably the first time in history it’s been closed for such a long period of time.

The crew is working overtime to get everything ready, cast members arrived yesterday on a charter flight from London, a land speeder prop vehicle was seen in the old town and even though the crew did their very best to hide it, Net.hr managed to get a few exclusive shots.

Rehearsals are scheduled for tonight and tomorrow from 6 PM until midnight while the actual filming will commence on March 11 from 4 AM onwards. Filming will finish on March 17th and alternative routes have been posted on special boards on Pile, Ploče, and Buža.

It still remains to be seen which Star Wars stars will actually be filming in Dubrovnik, and in the meantime, we bring you a few more photos of the set.

And if this is still not enough, here’s a short video by Manny Media with some info on the filming and franchise.
