They are especially fond of the food and night life.
As soon as they learned that the European University Games would be held in the Croatian capital, the students googled it to find out what they should see once they get to Zagreb. They now say that the University Village is better than Olympic villages, meat with mashed potatoes is the tastiest dish in the world, and the city is beautiful. Despite constant training and competitions, the participants of the European University Games did not miss the opportunity to tour the centre of the city and get to know Zagreb a little better, reports Večernji List on July 16, 2016.
“Fortunately, this is not the first time for us in Zagreb, so we knew pretty well where we should go. We had a night out, not the girls, just us”, Bojan Ivanović, coach of the women’s basketball team from Belgrade said with a smile. He added that the athletes were especially happy with the excellent accommodation. They participated in numerous competitions, he said, but the University Village at the dorm near Sava river is the best they have ever stayed in.
Helen Harmsen from Netherlands loves the food, but she first had to get used to the local cuisine. “It was a bit different for me when we first arrived, but the local food now makes me row better.” Her favourites are meat and mashed potatoes. She never visited Zagreb before and says she will go sightseeing during her day off.
Coralie Tripier, a tennis player from Switzerland, has been to the Croatian coast before, but she had never stayed in the Croatian capital. “I saw Komiža and Zadar and after we found out that the games will be held in Zagreb, I have been googling and analysing what I want to see here“, the future translator said. She added that she could not wait to see the Upper Town and that the area around the University Village was also very attractive.
“We train right across from the village, and it is very nice there. There are coffee shops where we can hang out and the Jarun Lake is very close by”, this tennis player said promising that she would return to Zagreb again after the games.
