As part of the “Zagreb to Neretva, Neretva to Zagreb” event, residents of Zagreb will be able to buy tangerines from the Neretva valley from 3 to 18 November at nine locations and 25 stalls, announced Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić and Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect Nikola Dobroslavić, reports Agrobiz.hr on November 2, 2018.
“The Dubrovnik-Neretva County has been recognized as a first-rate tourist destination, but we must not forget that we are an agricultural region as well, that we have excellent wines and seafood, and particularly well-developed production of fruit and vegetables in the Neretva valley. This year, we have produced 50,000 tons of fruit,” said Prefect Dobroslavić, adding that the tangerines were extraordinary fruit and that the producers have launched the process of being certified in order to obtain the EU’s protected designation of origin.
He thanked the mayor of Zagreb for recognizing the needs of Neretva growers of tangerines and for allowing them to sell their products at the most frequented locations in Zagreb. He said that Neretva tangerines were also being sold in other Croatian towns and municipalities, but Zagreb is the most important and the producers are therefore grateful for the help.
Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić said that “in this way, we can demonstrate that we are all together, southern Croatia and northern Croatia.” He urged fellow citizens to buy tangerines from the Neretva valley. He recommended – if they want to be healthy – they should eat two tangerines in the morning and two after lunch, and two clementines in the evening. He said that his recommendation should be the slogan of the “Zagreb to Neretva, Neretva to Zagreb” project.
The head of the City Office for Agriculture and Forestry Emil Tuk said that Dubrovnik-Neretva County had asked the City of Zagreb for help in the placement of its tangerines and that the city authorities decided to help by installing 25 stalls at nine locations. He announced that the tangerines would be sold in Zagreb from 3 to 18 November.
