Tourism Revenue Exceeded Expectations in 2016

2016 was an incredible year for tourism in Croatia, and a closer look at the official figures proves it.

According to the Croatian National Bank (HNB), revenues in tourism from foreign visitors amounted to an incredible 8 billion and 635 euros in 2016. Compared to 2015’s figures of 7 billion and 962 million euros, last years impressive results show an increase of 8.5%. The Minister of Tourism, Gari Cappelli, stated that the results of last year’s income from tourism exceeded all expectations.

During the fourth quarter of 2016, the Ministry of Tourism reports that tourism revenue amounted to 733 million euros, which is a promising increase of 10.5% (70 million euros) when compared to the same period of 2015 which saw a revenue of 663 million euros.

”The results regarding income from tourism exceeded our expectations, especially in the last quarter, where we achieved growth of 10.5%. Alongside domestic consumption, tourism revenues in 2016 grew by 10 billion euros, which represents the best results up until now, and shows that we are even closer to our stated goal, which is the achievement of 14 to 15 billion euros of revenue in tourism by the year 2020. This result is an indication that Croatian tourism is heading in the right direction and I would congratulate all employees in the tourism industry who contributed their time, effort and creativity to attain these excellent results. This year we will have around 800 million euros invested in tourism, and through that a number of new attractions and facilities will come about, as well as an increase in quality accommodation and improved tourist infrastructure, which, I am sure, will achieve even better results than 2016.” stated Gari Cappelli.
