Popular Bulgarian graphic designer Yanko Tsvetkov has made a detailed map showcasing the most popular names throughout the Slavic countries.
Although Tsvetkov created the map last year, the data this year has yet to change – which has been confirmed by the registry offices of the largest cities in Croatia, reports Index.hr on January 22, 2017.
Perhaps a tribute to one of Croatia’s favorite footballers, the name “Luka” is considered most popular in Croatia. To further show the popularity of the name in this region, Croatia’s neighbors in Slovenia have chosen “Luka” as their favorite as well.
In Serbia, the most common name is Lazar, and in Bosnia and Herzegovina it is Amar. Russians and Macedonians prefer the name Aleksandr, Belarusians have a liking to Vladislav, and Ukrainians choose Oleksandr. Jakub is most popular in Poland and Slovakia, Jan is most popular amongst the Czechs, and Bulgarians prefer Georgi.
