December 19, 2023 – Works on the new Osijek concert hall are well underway. Covering an area of about 1,000 square meters, it will fit about 400 seats.

Work on the completion and furnishing of the first concert hall in the history of Osijek, worth 1.7 million euros, is in full swing. Its completion is expected in the second half of next year, writes SiB.

Expressing satisfaction with the progress of the works, Mayor Ivan Radić said that the new concert hall will position Osijek on the Croatian and European cultural map. The Croatian Ministry of Culture provided about 930,000 euros for the Osijek concert hall, while the Ministry of Regional Development contributed with 770,000 euros.

“So a concert hall with an area of about 1,000 square meters and 400 seats will cost the citizens of the city of Osijek 0 cents. We are extremely satisfied and proud of that,” said Mayor Radić, adding that the city will allocate 5.1 million euros for culture next year, which is an increase of 620,000 euros compared to 2023.

“We are also planning a thorough renovation and reconstruction of the Croatian National Theater in Osijek, energy renovation of the Children’s Theatre, putting the building and yard in Josip Boesendorfer Street in Tvrđa into a cultural function, so there will be a lot of content,” announced the mayor.

He also recalled the Osijek summer of culture, which lasted two months this year, with over 80 different events, and for whose organization, he announced, funds will also be ensured next year. The mayor also pointed out that the City of Osijek has secured 200,000 euros for a piano in the concert hall of the Cultural Center.

The director of the Osijek Cultural Center, Ivan Kristijan Majić, assessed that the hall will be a huge step forward for the entire region.

“On the national level, there are few spaces like this that specialize in high-level art to this extent. This is a huge and important step that will connect several other cultural stakeholders in Osijek and the region,” said Majić.

Dalibor Mihaljević, director of the Zuber company and project manager, reported that the works are taking place in two phases – the arrangement of the auditorium and the arrangement of the stage. The construction of the steel floor above the stage is underway, followed by the installation of stage equipment.
