Famous Croatian designer Sylvio Roubertto Kovačić, who is works and lives in New York, has many global stars among his customers. As Sylvio himself said, his work and persistence have brought him success that he is enjoying today. But, the success did not change him. He was born in Frankfurt and grew up in a small Croatian town of Budinšćina. Kovačić completed his architectural studies in Zagreb and moved to the United States in 2000. In Tampa, he graduated from a fashion design school, launched his own brand Maestro Sylvio, and moved to New York, reports Večernji List on June 2, 2016.
As one of the leading American designers today, he established his studio on Manhattan and he is involved in every stage of the creative process – from the idea, drawing, tailoring, to the smallest details during the designing, draping and sawing stages. Luxurious clothes he makes are a reflection of the highest standards of precision, creativity and quality which he embraces.
Sylvio sees fashion as an art and himself as a painter who paints his artworks in his very own way. The name of his brand MAESTRO is a reflection of himself, because he believes that a fashion designer who is able to implement the idea all the way to the finished product entirely on his own can bear the title “maestro”. Sylvio’s goal is not only to design and sell clothes, but to express his art in a special and creative manner.
He is a personal designer of Lauren Santo Domingo, the executive editor of the American edition of Vogue and co-founder of the fashion platform Moda Operandi. He is also a personal stylist of Kelly Clarkson, the American Idol winner who hired him to make clothes for her tour. Singer Demi Lovato wears his pieces, as well as John Legend, the girls from the Fifth Harmony band, Australian actress Mirrah Foulkes, DJ Cassidy and others. His dress that was worn by singer Jena Rose at this year’s Grammy Awards has been named one of the best dresses of the night. Sylvio’s work, his collections and Maestro Couture have been featured in the American edition of Vogue.
After his participation in the Fashion Week New York and Fashion Week Dubai, Sylvio will present his new collection MAESTRO in Zagreb as well. “I am honoured and very happy to be able to show my work in my own country. Especially to my family and friends, and I would like to thank the Fashion Week Zagreb for that”, he said.
