A new honorary citizen for Croatia.

Michael Messer, one of Britain’s leading blues musicians, received an honorary citizenship in Kastav, a title given out by the City council. Messer, who has been following the Kastav Blues Festival not only as a musician but also as a promoter and who helped bring some of the world’s most renowned blues artists to the city, is a frequent guest and often says Kastav is his second home.

Two-time winner of BBC’s prestigious Blues Guitarist of the Year award, world class musician with over 30 albums in his career, is considered to be an unofficial art director of the Kastav Blues Festival. He helped raise organisational and artistic quality of the event and he also holds various free guitar playing workshops during the summer in Kastav, Ronjgi and Matulji

In his acceptance speech, Messer commented that his love for Kastav started the first time he visited and he keeps proving it every year when he comes back with his entire family for a working summer holiday.
