Croatians once again proved they are fantastic hosts and always ready to help a person in need.
Every once in a while, a story comes along that reminds us just how quick Croatians are to help a man in need, and on June 6, 2016, Zadarski List reported on a heartwarming story from Zadar.
British tourist Leon Mitchell (26) though he was living his worst nightmare when his belongings were stolen and he was left with nothing soon after he arrived in Croatia for his long awaited holiday. He was even forced to walk to Zadar airport where he planned to wait for 9 days until his return flight, without any money, food or means of contacting his family back home.
Zadar cab drivers heard about his ordeal on the second day and quickly accepted him as one of their own by giving him money, a cell phone, and accommodation.
-To cut a long story short, he came to Croatia to relax and have fun but instead he got robbed and was forced to walk to the airport where he was planning on waiting for his flight which was in 9 days without any food, money or company. After the second day at the airport, our group of airport cab drivers figured out what was going on and, as opposed to everyone else, we knew we couldn’t just sit there and do nothing.
We organized his accommodation, gave him enough money to get by and, of course, transfers were not a problem. As you can see from the photos, we are having a great time together, he is the most cheerful person I have ever met! On his behalf and my own, I would like to thank all my airport colleagues. It didn’t take long for the story to spread across all social network platforms and positive comments started pouring from every corner of the globe. Soon, everyone got involved including hostel, restaurant and bar owners in Zadar.
Well done all of you, this is how you show the world how hospitable your city is and it is the best promotion Zadar could ever hope for.
