zagreb classic 2024

June the 14th, 2024 – Plenty of people forget that Zagreb continues to not only exist, but come alive in the summer. It doesn’t go into hibernation as everyone flocks to the coast – far from it. Here’s what Zagreb Classic 2024 has in store in the city for all seasons.

Under the careful organisation of the Zagreb Tourist Board (TZGZ), the City of Zagreb and its partners, the open air Zagreb Classic 2024 will be held in the capital from June the 22nd to July the 2nd on King Tomislav Square (Trg Kralja Tomislava).

As such, in the aforementioned period, through a total of nine free concerts, the audience will be able to enjoy top quality classical music in the open air. At Zagreb Classic 2024, the GK Komedija Ensemble, the Ballet of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, the HRT Jazz Orchestra, the HRT Symphony Orchestra, Tango y cine, Urban&4, and the Zagreb Philharmonic will perform. The festival has been being held since 2016, and it has since come to rightfully enjoy cult status among artists and music lovers alike, which is once again being confirmed by this year’s much anticipated edition.

The programme of Zagreb Classic 2024 is being realised in cooperation with the City of Zagreb and its relevant offices, and Mayor Tomislav Tomašević said on this occasion: “This summer, Zagreb is set to offer its fellow citizens and visitors a series of cultural events once again. Starting with a top event for all classical music lovers – Zagreb Classic 2024. For 11 days, on one of Zagreb’s most beautiful squares, King Tomislav Square, works by Croatian and international musicians will be performed by renowned musicians who have performed on many stages all over the world. All of the concerts as part of the Zagreb Classic 2024 programme are free, so I’d like to invite everyone in Zagreb to come and be a part of this musical story that year after year contributes to the promotion and recognition of our city, especially in the field of culture!”

On this occasion, Martina Bienenfeld, director of TZGZ, said: “Zagreb Classic 2024, much like those before it, introduces us to the summer in the most beautiful way possible – with top music classics, ballet performances, film compositions, jazz standards and contemporary pieces. Among others, world-renowned pianist Hyung-ki Joo, Italian virtuoso Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi, soprano Caterina Iora, as well as Croatian stars of classical music will all come and perform.

This year’s edition also brings a special novelty – two days dedicated to the Vienna Music and Film Festival. Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy video projections of some of the most famous operas and operettas, such as The Magic Flute, W.A. Mozart and the Bat, Johann Strauss the Younger. In addition, we’d like invite our fellow citizens and visitors not to miss the opportunity to attend some open rehearsals, which will further complete the experience. Zagreb Classic represents a unique invitation to visit the capital and indulge in the unique atmosphere that revives this city’s cultural and musical heritage. As such, we’d like to invite everyone to join this musical journey and enjoy some unforgettable moments under the stars.”

We’d like to emphasise that six concert programmes begin at 21:00, while three programmes will begin at 20:30. In addition to performers from across Croatia, musicians from Italy, Great Britain and Poland will also perform.

The entire programme for Zagreb Classic 2024 is available here!

In case of unfavourable weather conditions, the programmes will be, in as much as is possible, moved to another day or cancelled.

Your “ticket” to Zagreb Classic 2024 will come in the form of… bringing a mat for you to sit down comfortably on on the soft green grass of King Tomislav Square!

Now, we must warn you that summer in Zagreb is, as you might expect, warm! It would be wise to bring your own water bottles with you so that you stay comfortable and hydrated while enjoying the warm city night air and watching some excellent performances. There are refilling stations from which you can refill your bottles as much as you need on Strossmayer Square and of course at King Tomislav Square as well.
