June 20, 2023 – Summer has arrived, and with it the season of outdoor festivals! Food, drinks, concerts, and highly entertaining programmes in the coming months will be popping up at various locations around Zagreb. Journal brings an overview of the best Zagreb festivals for the summer, along with the most important info for each.
Zagreb festivals staple: Pop Up Summer Garden
A new edition of the Pop Up Summer Garden is underway at Lake Bundek. Summer is knocking on the door, and we believe Pop Up By The Lake will become your favourite place to chill, hang out with the crew, vibe to the music, and watch movies under the stars by the lake. Summer at the Zagreb Fairgrounds
New Zagreb has this year received its own festival called Summer at the Zagreb Fairgrounds (Ljeto na Zagrebačkom Velesajmu). The large green area in front of pavilion no. 20 of the Zagreb Fairgrounds will host this open-air festival for eleven days. The aim is to promote music, culture, young, unestablished musical ensembles, and artistic programmes. Admission is free, and the festival lasts from June 22 to July 2. Wine City (Vinski Grad)
From June 15 to July 2, all wine lovers can enjoy an open-air wine bar with promo prices and a delicious gastro offer in Dr Franjo Tuđman Park. This is the third time that Zagreb’s favourite wine oasis will be there, and the entrance is free for everyone. Sipping wine and good fun is guaranteed, and the program lasts from 17:00 to 01:00. Green River Fest
Summers are perfect for hanging out on boats along the Sava River. This time we will not sail, but the boats are an adorable scene. You can sit back in one and enjoy the varied programme of the Green River Fest. Workshops for young and old, board games, sunbathing on the first solar beach, an evening concert… these are just a part of what awaits at the top meeting point of Zagreb residents – the Sava embankment (near the Hendrix bridge). The program will last from June 29 until October 1.
Summer at Matoš
The well-known Zagreb event, Summer at Matoš, is ready for this year’s edition once again at a prominent location in the very centre of the city! Caffe de Matoš will occur in the shade of the tree line and under the old lanterns in the hidden gem of the Lower Town – the Braće Mažuranić square.
Hot summer evenings on Mažuranec, full of traditionally great DJ sets, bands, fine snacks and refreshing cocktails under the stars, will go on for almost a month, from June 30 to July 29. In addition to Summer at Matoš, visitors will enjoy the programme of another excellent festival: LADO at Mažuranec. Details are available here.
One of the Most Famous Zagreb Festivals: Courtyards
Zagreb Courtyards (Dvorišta), the internationally recognized and award-winning cultural and tourist event of the city of Zagreb, is bringing its ninth edition from July 12 to 23!
The project that “grew” out of the Upper Town – its localities, themes, stories and traditions, from the first staging with its unique concept and creative approach won not only the attention of the public but also the hearts of numerous visitors – both the people of Zagreb and guests from all over Croatia and of the world.
