Zagreb Hackathon is a 24-hour programming marathon and this year’s winning team presented their innovative solution for better public transport planning

Zagreb Hackathon winners, Jurica Vlahoviček, Dejan Pavković, Matej Kuraja and Filip Ivić, united in a team called “Prženi lignjuni”, presented their SocialCar project to project partners, city administration members and members of the public on June 13.

The competition in Montreal was held May 12 -14, before the UITP (International Association of Public Transport) Summit. SocialCar project leader Matija Vuger briefly presented the project and future plans and Sanja Cvjetko Jerković opened the programme presentation.
“The ultimate goal is to create a mobile application that will provide citizens with a range of options that will make their daily commute easier,” said Sanja Cvjetko Jerković, head of the City Office for Planning and Development.

SocialCar develops an application that will provide users with improved travel planning information. It will offer alternative options that include carpooling and other mobility services on demand for routes between their starting point and public transport, as well as routes between public transport and the end point of their journey. The application will also provide information on delays and breaks in traffic while offering alternative travel options.

Zagreb Hackathon winners participated in the “Global Transport Hackaton” finale in Montreal, competing against representatives of 20 world cities where local hackathons were held.

Zagreb Hackathon, a twenty-four-hour marathon competition of young professionals in programming, was held on April 21 and 22, 2017 in ZgForum, organised by the City Office for Strategic Planning and Development of the City of Zagreb in cooperation with Razvojna agencija Zagreb, Youth For Public Transport (Y4PT) Foundation, The Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, Zagreb University of Applied Sciences and Zagreb Holding, a branch of ZET (Zagrebački električni tramvaj; “Zagreb Electric Tram”.)

The young professionals have made the most of the opportunity provided by the SocialCar project and will continue their work on the application created at Zagreb hackathon.
