Zagreb to Host Kandinsky’s Exhibition Next Year

The exhibition will be organized as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the friendship between St. Petersburg and Zagreb.

The exhibition of the great Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky will be opened in 2017 at the Art Pavilion in Zagreb, as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the friendship between St. Petersburg and Zagreb. Also, an exhibition of selected works from the Hermitage Museum will be held at Klovićevi Dvori in 2018, announced the director of the Art Pavilion Jasminka Poklečki Stošić and deputy director of Klovićevi Dvori Petra Vugrinec, reports politikaplus.com on June 11, 2016

The Art Pavilion will organize the exhibition of paintings of one of the greatest painters of the 20th century, said Poklečki Stošić, noting that the exhibition will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of friendship between Zagreb and St. Petersburg and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Croatia. They started working on the exhibition in 2014, said the director of the Art Pavilion, adding that the exhibition will also be organized on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Kandinsky’s birth.

“We have sent invitations to museums from Europe, the United States and Russia to lend us his works for the exhibition, and we have already received numerous positive replies”, said the director.

Russian Ambassador to Croatia Anvar Azimov said that Russia was one of the first countries to recognize Croatia’s independence.

Deputy director of the Klovićevi Dvori Petra Vugrinec pointed out that the exhibition from the collections of the Hermitage Museum in 2018 would coincide with a Russian state holiday – the Independence Day of Russia.

Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić said that both exhibitions would be of historic importance and described them as a result of deep and friendly relations between Croatian and Russian people.
