Zagreb to Host WordCamp #3 in September

Total Croatia News

WordCamp is a conference that focuses on all things WordPress related.

Third Annual WordCamp will be held in Zagreb September 1 – 3, with an anticipated 300 people in attendance, wptavern.com reported on July 19.

WordCamp was held in Rijeka in 2015 and Split in 2016. The three-day event is a gathering place for WordPress users who want to learn the basics or become pros. This year’s edition will include 12 workshops, starting with free workshops on Friday. The main conference will be held Saturday, with Contributor Day will closing the event on Sunday, followed by a walking tour of the city. The event will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

“Croatia is a tourist country and most of the people here speak good English, which is often used at large tech events,” Blagonic said. “With that in mind, every WordCamp so far was (mostly) in English, which means it’s quite welcoming for people outside Croatia, too (Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Germany) – and our community likes to meet new people. Unlike WordCamps, we see Meetups as strong local events so we usually have talks in Croatian there.”

Blagonić said that 20 % of WordCamp visitors travel from outside Croatia, and most travel from other parts of Croatia, which is good for tourism, but Blagonić says that he likes to change cities because centralisation is not good. There are four technologic hubs in Croatia, where most things happen, which is problematic for people living outside those hubs.

“If you go outside of these four hubs, a lot fewer things happen, which is a problem for people living outside. We believe that having a centralised country is bad for growing local communities (outside these areas) so with changing cities each year and with travelling to other Meetups/WordCamps we hope that we will change how people feel about it.”
