Accolades for ZKM’s “Hinkemann” at the International Small Scene Theatre Festival in Rijeka

After nine days of top-quality performances by multiple international ensembles, The International Small Scene Theatre Festival in Rijeka came to a close on Wednesday, May 10th. Ernst Toller’s “Hinkemann” staged by ZKM (Zagreb Youth Theatre) was awarded the title of Best Play, reports tportal, while the award for Best Director went to Hinkemann’s Igor Vuk Torbica.

Playwright Željka Turčinović from Zagreb, actor Branko Cvejić from Belgrade and actor Elvis Bošnjak from Split comprised the judging panel, unanimously concluding that the 100-year-old play „becomes a story of our age, focusing on neuralgic points of soulless capitalism and the tragedy of war that continues to travel through time like a bullet, permanently scarring our lives.“

Best Actor award went to Ozren Grabarić for the role of Ceremony Master in the same play, while his co-star Rakan Rushaidat got the Mediteran award by Novi list for the title role, rounding up the total of four awards won by ZKM alone. Best Actress was awarded to Hana Selimović for the role in “Ivanov” by A.P. Chekhov, staged by the National Theatre in Belgrade. “Ivanov” was also most appraised by the audience who awarded the play with an average score of 4,66.

Agnieska Ravdo from Vilnius City Theatre won the Best Young Actress award for her role in Chekhov’s “The Seagull”, while the Best Supporting Role went to Predrag Ejdus for “Ivanov”.

Mate Matišić won the award for the best play script for his “People of Wax”, staged by the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb. The same play also got the Best Original Score award for music composed by Tamara Obrovac. Best Scenography award went to Grupa Numen and Ivona Jonke for “Hamlet” by the Yugoslav Drama Theatre from Belgrade.
