May the 13th, 2025 – An interesting offer from one municipality as 500 Croatian citizens living in it are set to be given completely free smart watches to better ensure the safety of older people.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the municipality of Žminj is implementing an interesting project aimed at increasing the safety of the older population living there. The current plan is to give 500 Croatian citizens free smart watches which allow them to quickly easily call the emergency services if needed.
These smart watches are equipped with a special SOS button that users can quickly press in order to request help. The local government announced that the first phase of the distribution of the devices will start immediately, while the rest is expected to take place this autumn, according to a report from local Istrian portal Istarski.hr.
A special mobile application (app) is also being planned, set to be in function by the end of the year. That app will automatically send the caller’s location along with placing a call to the emergency services on their behalf. This highly commendable initiative is part of the broader “Smart City Žminj” strategy, which aims to apply smart technologies in everyday life.
The project is otherwise being co-financed by the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency.
