Bright Future for Croatia’s Agriculture, Says Minister

ZAGREB, August 25, 2018 – Agriculture Minister Tomislav Tolušić on Saturday said that Croatia’s agriculture sector had a bright future which can be seen in the better absorption of funding from the Rural Development Programme and in the increased mechanisation in farming.

Minister Tolušić opened the 5th Farm Show of farm machinery in Osijek which will run until Sunday on about ten thousand square metres of exhibition space with about 30 exhibitors. Tolušić recalled that in 2015 there were only 150 tractors sold, whereas last year that number was 720 and this year he expects more than a thousand tractors to be sold.

“That hasn’t occurred coincidentally but is the result of the Rural Development Programme and increased use of financing through that programme and EU funds. Modern mechanisation for our farmers means more efficient use of arable land, better yields and I hope, better earnings,” Tolušić underscored.

The Farm Show is organised by the association of retailers of farm machinery and its president, Darko Aračić said that he was pleased with the market recovery but for the farmers to be competitive with neighbouring countries it would be necessary to sell between 1500 and 2000 tractors.
