The tourist complex will employ around 200 people when it is finished in 2020.

Construction of the Costabella Luxury Resort & Spa complex, in which the Czech JHT Group will invest about 50 million euros, began by laying the foundation stone at the construction site at Kostabela in Rijeka, reports Večernji List on May 1, 2017.

The project in the Kostabela neighbourhood covers about two hectares and includes the construction of the main hotel building, exclusive and deluxe villas, common areas, a conference centre, wellness and spa centres, a gym, a large outdoor swimming pool and a private beach.

CEO of JTH Group Jaroslav Tresnak says that the completion of the construction works is planned by 2020, when the arrival of the first tourists is expected. He believes that the quality and standards of the hotel will be at the five-star level, although the official designation will be determined later.

The complex will have 560 beds, and about 200 people will be employed, mostly from the local area, while part of the management will probably come from abroad.

Explaining the motives for coming and investing in the Kvarner region, he says that he fell in love with the Rijeka area when he came there to a vacation as a student, stressing that the project would not have been possible without the support of the Rijeka town administration. In 2014, the local authorities sold the land for the construction of the tourist complex at a public tender to the Tre-Invest company from Kastav, which is wholly owned by JHT.

Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel said it was a significant investment that would increase the tourist capacity of the town, which has so far been one of the obstacles for an even more intensive tourism development, given that Rijeka is becoming a well-known tourist destination with an increase in the number of tourist arrivals by 20 percent each year.

He stressed that the town administration had agreed with the investor that the promenade along the sea would remain a public area and open to all citizens, although the complex will be located in the immediate vicinity.

According to the JHT data, the group has been dealing with real estate and land investments for more than 25 years. It’s main focus are construction and reconstruction, lease, sale, maintenance and management of retail and business premises, hotel accommodation capacities and logistics centres.
