ZAGREB, August 26, 2018 – At the end of June 2018, there were 256,446 registered business entities in Croatia, of which 61.1% (158,060) were active and nearly one in three were in Zagreb, according to the national statistical office.
Of the registered businesses, 185,121 were companies, of which 67.7% were active; 67,816 were institutions, bodies or organisations, of which 46.9% were active; 3,509 were cooperatives, including 973 active ones; and 83,339 were tradespersons or free-lancers.
Of the active legal entities, 78.2% were privately-owned (123,601), including 71,704 with one to nine employees and 71,001 with no employees; 11,645 had ten to 49 employees; 3,147 had 50 to 249 employees; 306 had 250 to 449 employees; and 257 had 500 or more employees.
Most of the companies were limited liability companies – 142,346 registered and 93,372 active ones; followed by simple limited liability companies – 40,055 registered and 30,273 active ones.
