ZAGREB, October 22, 2018 – President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović said on Monday that Croatia could become a strong energy hub for the whole of Europe and for that to be achieved, it was necessary to make significant investments, for instance, in the planned LNG terminal on the island of Krk and in Croatia’s sections of the Ionian-Adriatic gas supply pipeline.
Addressing the conference called “Energy security in Croatia and beyond”, which was organised by the Centre for the Renewal of Culture in Zagreb, the president spoke about the energy security as a priority.
“An emphasis is put on the diversification of sources, of suppliers and supply routes, particularly on the establishment of a southern gas corridor and LNG hubs across the European Union. In that context, Croatia can play an important role thanks to its geographical position. Croatia is in a position to become a strong energy hub for the whole of Croatia,” said the head of state.
She underscored the security of the provision of energy as a pillar of Croatia’s energy development national strategy, which is to be adopted by the end of this year.
Grabar-Kitarović also recalled that during the summit of Three Seas’ Initiative in Bucharest last month, Croatia outlined 11 energy, transport and digital projects, with the aggregate value of 1.78 billion euro.
