On the last day of June, Dubrovnik Airport set a new record with 16,542 passengers
The number of passengers in Croatian air traffic has been growing each year, while data for the first half of the year, especially June, offer optimism that this year records will continue to fall. The greatest increase in passengers in June was seen in Split, with 321,196 passengers or 18.5% more than last June. That’s nearly half of the six-month traffic in Split with 686,235, passengers, a 12.5% increase, Poslovni Dnevnik reported on July 5, 2016.
As Pero Bilas, director of Split Airport explained, there are 53 companies using the airport, with SAS, Norwegian and Vueling as newcomers. June was also great for Dubrovnik Airport with a 17.8% growth and record last day of June with 16,542 passengers. Pula Airport had 118,033 passengers in six months, a 14% growth since last year, with the same percentage of growth in June, with 68,302 passengers.
Dean Boljunčić, head of the commercial sector of Pula Airport, notes that in season they are connected to 31 destinations, with 20 companies using the airport. Bolunčić expects the 2016 growth to be affected by the new lines of Easyjet to Paris, Hamburg and Toulouse, with the existing Gatwick. New lines include the Edelweiss to Zurich, Finnair to Helsinki and a large frequency of Aer Lingus to Dublin, Jet2.com to Manchester, Siberia Airlines to Moscow, Air Serbia to Belgrade and Thomson Airways to East Midlands. Nikola Barać from the Zadar Airport said they had 180,000 passengers in six months, the same as last year.
“In May we had 62,748 passengers, a 5.7% growth, while June brought us 69,591 passengers, 1.5% more. Zadar Airport is used by 20 airlines, the most important being Ryanair with 13 destinations and 69% of total traffic,” Barać said. Zadar Airport expects 520,000 passengers this year, which would break the record from 2014 with 495,000.
Growth has been recorded in Zagreb Airport as well, with 267,259 passengers in June, a 7.5% increase. The airport stated they had 1.4% less operations in the first half of the year, while 23 companies use the airport for 35 destinations.
