Run down building will be completely demolished beginning of next week

Tourist palace, run down building in the very heart of Split, is finally going to be reconstructed. Known for its string of restaurants, cafes and tour agencies, this was one of the busiest parts of the Split promenade, but also somewhat of an eyesore given it’s been decades since its last refurbishment.

After the last tenant moved out of the business premises, smaller demolition works started yesterday, marking the beginning of this vital undertaking for Split’s tourism. Protective fences will be placed around the area this Friday, October 16th and the entire construction will be taken down beginning of next week if the weather allows.

Tourist palace will be managed by a company called “Valleus” for the next 25 years and they will have to pay a monthly fee of 23 000 EUR for the use of this space, and after the 25 year concession period the palace will be returned to the City of Split. All works should be finalized by next summer so there will be plenty of great new spots to enjoy good food and great coffee on the very top of the promenade by the Port Authority building.
