Fishing Ports Modernisation Tender to Be Announced

Total Croatia News

ZAGREB, January 21, 2018 – The Ministry of Agriculture will issue a 311 million kuna tender for the modernisation of fishing ports at the end of January as part of the measure “Fishing ports, unloading sites, wholesale fish markets and shelters”.

The aid scheme is intended for port authorities, local/regional government units and holders of concessions for the management of port areas. They can receive 100 percent of the aid for eligible costs.

Eligible are investments in the infrastructure of fishing ports and unloading sites to increase the quality, control and traceability of unloaded products and improve energy efficiency, environmental protection, safety at work and working conditions.

Croatia has a fishing fleet of 7,800 vessels and fishermen use only about 15 kilometres of its 1,700-km-long shore. Shore areas used by fishermen mostly do not meet the standards for fish unloading, and in order to ensure berths for fishing vessels and unloading of fish, it is necessary to modernise and equip an additional three to seven kilometres of the shore, the Ministry said.
