Grandma’s Basket Brings Products From Croatian Family Farms to Your Table

Total Croatia News

In Croatia, it is just as important to have your own trusted “nana” at the farmers market, someone you always buy your fresh produce from, as it is to have your doctor, dentist or lawyer. With most of us spending all of our days at work or thinking about work, it’s becoming increasingly hard to find the time to stroll down to the market, and with the advancement of technology it was only a matter of time before someone decided to take the farmer’s market online.

This would be the idea behind “Bakina košara” or Grandma’s basket, first online store for fresh produce directly from the family farms across Croatia. Their aim is to become the “middle-person” between all Croatia farmers and end buyers, and considering they already have more than 140 products in their every day offer a little over a month since they started the project, we can say they are definitely on the right track.

“Our main goal is to become a service for all family run farms and homesteads that don’t have their own selling channels or cannot organise the sale of their products. We buy their products, expand our offer and become their distribution centre. We deliver baskets filled with ordered fresh products, straight to your front door”. says Đurđa Koluder, the woman behind the project.

They’ve been operational for less than a month and not only do they have regular customers, they are also receiving calls from various farms asking to be included in the project so the list of offered products is growing daily “We strive for high quality products because we want to be known for our top-of the line products. Most of the producers we work with, work in accordance with the highest EU standards. For instance, cheese and cream in our offer is made from free-range cows while our pork crisps have been rated the best in Europe” Ms Koluder continued.

“Bakina košara” only deliver throughout Zagreb, but considering the interest, it is very likely they will expand their delivery area soon. As for the prices, MS Koluder says ” We don’t create the prices. Producers set the price and our mark-ups are minimal. We’re aware we will probably lose money in the first few months but I’m sure there’s a bright future and a place for us in this market”.
