ZAGREB, April 4, 2018 – Road operator Hrvatske Ceste (HC) has chosen a consortium led by the Croatian construction company IGH Institute to oversee the construction of the Pelješac bridge and access roads. The decision has been published in the online bulletin of public procurement notices.
HC received three bids for the job: one from the consortium led by IGH, which offered to do the job for 49.4 million kuna; the Lipov Gaj company submitted a bid worth 55.66 million kuna, while a consortium comprising the German company Krebs+Kiefer and the Croatian company Geoprojekt offered 52 million kuna (all excluding VAT).
The estimated value of this job was 53.54 million kuna.
The bid made by the consortium led by IGH was chosen as the most cost effective one. Lipov Gaj’s offer was rejected as irregular because the company failed to submit a guarantee, while the consortium of Krebs+Kiefer and Geoprojekt failed to prove that it possesses the know-how as required by the procurement documentation. The decision can be appealed to the State Commission for Supervision of Public Procurement Procedures.
The Pelješac Bridge will be built by the Chinese consortium China Road and Bridge Corporation, which offered 2.08 billion kuna, excluding VAT. The deadline for the completion of the project is 36 months.
The total value of the project is 526 million euro, including VAT, and the value of eligible costs is 420 million euro, of which 357 million euro or 85% will be provided by the European Union. The decision to co-finance the largest ever Croatian infrastructure project was made by the European Commission in June 2017.
The bridge will be 2.4 kilometres long and 55 metres high and will have four lanes. It will connect Dubrovnik-Neretva County with the rest of the country and facilitate an unimpeded flow of goods and people throughout the year and especially during the tourist season.
