Insurance Industry Shows Further Growth

ZAGREB, February 19, 2018 – Twenty-three Croatian insurance companies posted a total gross premium of 929.98 million kuna at the end of January 2018, an increase of 3.4% compared with January 2017, according to data from the Croatian Insurance Bureau (HUO).

In the non-life insurance segment, which accounts for 77% of the total premium, the gross premium charged increased by 5.4% to 715.6 million kuna, while in the life insurance segment, the gross premium decreased by 1.7% to 214.4 million kuna, HUO said.

The most prevailing type of insurance in the non-life insurance segment was motor-vehicle liability insurance, with a gross premium of 167.1 million kuna, up 10.1% from January 2017.

In the life insurance segment, the largest share was held by classic life insurance, with a gross premium of 176.3 million kuna, an increase of 13.3% over January 2017.

The largest market share, of 30.72%, was held by the Croatia Osiguranje insurance company, with a total gross premium charged of 285.6 million kuna. It was followed by Allianz, with a 17.68% market share and a premium of 164.4 million kuna, and Euroherc, with an 8% market share and a premium of 74.1 million kuna.

Croatia Osiguranje also controlled the largest portion of the non-life insurance segment, of 35.97%, with a premium of 257.4 million kuna, while the largest portion of the life insurance segment was controlled by Allianz, with a market share of 18.1% and a premium of 38.9 million kuna.
