Economy Minister Panenić says he has no information about any such plans.
Economy Minister Tomislav Panenić said he was not aware that foreign investors planned to build a floating LNG terminal in the port of Plomin, instead of the island of Krk. According to Panenić, he was presented with the plan of the Prvo Plinarsko Društvo (PPD) to build a terminal for liquefied gas and oil derivatives in the port of Ploče, in partnership with the Vitol Group, but he did not hear anything about any Plomin project, reports Novi List on June 5, 2016.
According to unofficial information, there are companies which are interested in constructing a floating terminal at Plomin. This coincides with the failure of the project involving the construction of the third block of the Plomin coal power plant which would have replaced the first block. LNG Hrvatska, the company heading the project to construct a land terminal on the island of Krk, which has since been turned into a floating terminal, said it could not comment on the intents of investors who did not respond to its call for the construction of the land terminal.
Asked whether anyone had contacted them regarding the terminal at Plomin and what were their thoughts about this idea, representatives of LNG Hrvatska explained that the company is responsible for the implementation of the LNG terminal construction on the island of Krk.
“The company has received a valid location permit for the realization of the LNG terminal on Krk. We have completed a public call for investors for the LNG terminal, and negotiations with the preferred investors are now under way. Therefore, we are unable to comment on investors who have not participated in a transparent manner in the public call for the investment in the LNG terminal on the island of Krk. The location on Krk has been chosen by expert consultants as the best of the nine surveyed locations, and all the studies and location permits have been issued for that specific location”, said the representatives of the LNG Hrvatska company.
The Prefect of Istria County Valter Flego said he would not comment on the “relocation” of the LNG terminal from Omišalj to Plomin until he gets an official confirmation of such plans.
