Konzum Records Double-Digit Growth for Easter Holidays

The largest retail chain in Croatia achieved a higher turnover during the Easter holiday season than in 2017, selling more than 300 tons of ham and over 282,000 pieces of traditional Easter cakes, reports Poslovni.hr on April 11, 2018.

During this year’s holiday season, Konzum has achieved even better sales and business results than in the last two years. Compared to the Easter period in 2017, the turnover in shops which were opened both last and this year increased by 17 percent. In addition, in the last three days of the Easter season, the turnover grew by as much as 21 percent compared to the previous year, and by one percent compared to 2016.

In the same period, the value of an average basket of products grew by 16 percent compared to 2017 and by six percent compared to 2016.

Excellent results were achieved by the Konzum Klik online shopping service, with an increase in turnover of as much as 62.3 percent compared to 2017 and of 55.6 percent in comparison to 2016.

More than 300 tons of ham was sold, and sales of traditional Easter cakes also increased, with nearly 205,000 pieces of “pinca,” more than 32,000 of “orahnjača,” more than 25,000 pieces of “makovnjača” and over 20,000 pieces of “mađarica.”

As the only retail trade chain with the special mark issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Croatian Chamber of Commerce for selling fresh and frozen fish from Croatian rivers, lakes and seas, Konzum sold more than 277 tons of frozen fish during the pre-Easter Lent period, which is the best result ever recorded in this product segment.

After the excellent results achieved during the Easter season, Konzum says it will continue with the intensive preparations for the upcoming summer tourist season, which is expected to surpass last year’s. Accordingly, they play to employ a large number of additional workers for the positions of salespeople, drivers, warehouse workers, butchers and chefs, both during the tourist season and as full-time workers for the whole year.
