Croatian ice cream travels from the Port of Rijeka all the way to the Persian Gulf.

The leading Croatian and regional ice cream manufacturer Ledo has broadened its cooperation with the IFFCO Group Unipex Dairy, the market leader in the food industry of the United Arab Emirates, reports telegram.hr on April 23, 2016.

IFFCO Group has been present in the 30 countries across the regions of Africa and Asia, and it holds significant market shares in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman. Ledo and IFFCO Group have signed an agreement last year about the production of the Ledo’s popular, full-flavoured King ice cream. This year, they have widened their cooperation to include the family size ice cream brand Quattro.

Ledo has announced a statement saying that the company has been exporting about one third of its production to about 20 foreign markets. They emphasize that the most important export markets, from the aspect of quantity, are Hungary and Slovenia, followed by Norway and the United States of America. Besides the IFFCO Group, Ledo also collaborates with other big global companies, including Kroger from the United States, Tesco from Great Britain and Diplom Is from Norway.

“Our cooperation with Unipex allows us to step into the new markets in Asia and Africa, where we see a big potential for our ice cream brands, but also for our other frozen products”, explained Dario Vrabec, managing director of Ledo. Ledo ice creams are being transported directly from the company’s production facility to United Arab Emirates via a sea route – from the Port of Rijeka, via the Adriatic Sea and Mediterranean Sea, through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea, all the way to a port in the Persian Gulf.

Vrabec reiterated that “Ledo is one of few regional companies that has managed to resist even the strongest of international competitors. Its success has to do with quality, which has been increasingly recognized by our partners in the far away countries”.
