The future hotel will be located in the town of Krk and open in 2018.

The Degrad Development Group construction company, owned by Denis Šikljan, known for investments and the construction of luxury villas and apartments on the island of Krk, will open a luxurious hotel in the town of Krk, reports Poslovni.hr on June 1, 2017.

The investment is worth 11 million euros, and the 35-room hotel with a pool on top should be ready for the 2018 season, said Šikljan. “This is a project which we have been working on for a long time. It will be located in the town of Krk, with a beautiful view of the old town, the Kaštel from the 12th century, and the bell tower of the cathedral. Since we are involved in investments in exclusive villas and apartments, this facility will certainly be our largest project,” said Šikljan, adding that the primary objective of the investor was to take part in the development of Krk as the top tourist destination.

The future hotel will be located near the promenade and the town beach. Because the plot is quite steep, the Mediterranean gardens will cascade towards the sea. The hotel will offer a wellness center, an a la carte restaurant, as well as a wine cellar with several hundred top wines. Among amenities will be an open-air whiskey and cigar bar, and an infinity pool with a sun terrace on the roof. The restaurant and the bar will be open to the public.

The hotel fronts will be made of wood and concrete. The design project is almost complete, devised by the Croatian studio Lotus Architecti. Šikljan adds that it is imperative for the design to be distinctive and appropriate for the destination. “The destination is largely comprised of architecture, which is visible in various global destinations, and our aim is to build facilities that will make our destination special.”

Degrad plans to manage the hotel independently, with the help of staff which will be trained in similar facilities in the Mediterranean. Šikljan does not doubt that Krk is becoming a luxury destination, which is demonstrated by the high interest of customers for their villas on the island. Interestingly, there are almost no buyers from Croatia.

“Krk has become very interesting to customers from southern Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. We are attractive because of excellent traffic connections. Many owners of apartments and villas come in their private airplanes, given that Krk has an international airport. We have sold most of the apartments, and due to the great interest we currently have as many as seven building sites open,” said Šikljan, adding that Krk needed a hotel investment such as this.
