More than 153,000 Business Entities Active in Croatia

According to a report by Poslovni Dnevnik on the 11th of August, 2017, data from the Central Bureau of Statistics shows that at the end of June this year, there were 264,148 registered business entities in the Republic of Croatia, of which 58%, or 153,281, were active.

There were 66,139 institutions, bodies, associations and organisations, of which 30,083 were seen to be active.

More than half of the registered and active entities are represented in four areas of activity: the wholesale and retail trade; the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles with an activity level of 19.6% and a share of 20.2%, the manufacturing industry at 9.3% with a share of 8.2%, followed by professional, scientific and technical activities with a percentage of 12.5 a share of 10%, and other services with a share of 16.9% registered and a level of activity at 13.1%.

The statistics show that legal entities in the country are mostly privately owned – 120,265 or 78.4% of the total figure.

With currently active legal entities, the largest number are companies, 70,882 of them with between 1 and 9 employees, 67,275 entities with no employees, 11,385 with between 10 and 49 employees, 3,186 with between 50 and 249 employees, and 553 with more than 250 employees.

Data on the territorial division of registered legal entities at the county level show that a third of legal persons are located in the City of Zagreb, followed by those in Split-Dalmatia County, with 10.3%, then in in Primorje-Gorski Kotar County at 8.4%.
