Total Croatia News

For the first time ever, the number of broadband users in fixed networks reaches one million.

The market of electronic communications is the second quarter of this year brought an increase in revenues for operators, and for the first time the number of broadband internet connections in the fixed network exceeded one million, reports 24sata.hr on September 3, 2016.

Among the segments of electronic communications market, the largest increase in revenues and the number of users was recorded in the broadband internet access. At end of the second quarter, there was a total of 4.2 million such connections, or 5 percent more than in the same period last year. The number of uses in fixed broadband networks increased by 4.6 percent, exceeding one million for the first time ever. In mobile networks, there was more than 3.2 million such connections, which is also an increase of 5 percent compared to the second quarter of last year.

Although the numbers of broadband internet connections in fixed and mobile networks are very different, revenues in these two sectors are quite similar – revenues in fixed networks amounted to 443 million kuna, or 1 percent more than last year, while in mobile networks they amounted to 493.2 million kuna, which is an increase of 6.6 percent.

Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM) explains the growth in the second quarter with new investments, as well as with the beginning of the main tourist season, when many foreign tourists enter Croatian operators’ networks.

Despite the growing use of the internet, operators continue to record significant revenues from telephone services as well, which in fixed networks at the end of the second quarter amounted to a total of 465.6 million kuna. However, the long trend of decline in these revenues has continued, this time by 10.6 percent, while revenues from the same services in mobile networks continued to grow by 8 percent compared to the same period last year.

The growth of the electronic communications market was recorded in the sector of television services as well. With 174.5 million kuna of total revenues, the TV services recorded the highest growth among all segments, by 13 percent.
