Croatia is about to open an embassy in Kuwait.

Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarović will this weekend arrive in a state visit to Kuwait, where she will open the Embassy of Croatia, reports on February 1, 2017.

The President will be accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Martina Dalić, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Zdravka Bušić, representatives of the Croatian Chamber of Economy and the Croatian National Tourist Board, and businessmen from companies such as Đuro Đaković, RH Alan, Brodotrogir and others.

During the two-day state visit, the President will have available an official state residence, where she will have a series of meetings with representatives of political and economic leadership of Kuwait.

One of the major obstacles for signing profitable contracts for the Croatian defence industry in Kuwait has been the fact that Croatia does not have an embassy in the country. Until now, Kuwait was covered from the Croatian Embassy in Qatar, which was deemed offensive by the Kuwaitis, so it is not surprising that there were constant delays in the conclusion of deals with Croatian defence industry sector.

Potential military-industrial contracts worth 400 million dollars must be concluded under the auspices of the Croatian state, which would act as a kind of guarantor. If the contracts are agreed, that would be just a part of successful military cooperation with countries such as Qatar, Oman and Kuwait, which use Croatian knowledge and experience for the training of their own armed forces and are buyers of military equipment manufactured by Croatian producers.

This move of the Croatian authorities is crucial for the Đuro Đaković company which is in an excellent position in Kuwait when it comes to competition for armoured combat vehicle with Patria AMV 8X8.
