TEDi Retail Chain Opening First Stores in Croatia

Total Croatia News

The first TEDi shops will be opened in Zagreb.

The German TEDi retail chain, which already operates in several Central European countries, is coming to the Croatian market at the end of August with the opening of two stores in Zagreb, reports Poslovni.hr on August 21, 2017.

The arrival of TEDi to the Supernova Center in the Buzin neighbourhood and the Supernova Garden Mall was confirmed by the Manager of Supernova Ines Bakić Zubak, while TEDi did not comment on possible further expansion to other locations in Croatia.

But on their official website, you can find information in the Croatian language about plans to reach the total number of 2,000 outlets and to find adequate properties on attractive and frequented locations. Since its foundation in Dortmund in 2004, the expansion of its trading network has been marked by an average rate of two new sales outlets per week. They ended the first fiscal year with 120 newly opened stores, and by 2006 the figure has risen to 400, while in 2011 it exceeded 1,200 stores across Europe.

TEDi is today considered to be one of the fastest expanding non-food retail companies, whose market position, as can be seen on its official website, is supported by a network of 1,500 stores on whose shelves there are about 5,000 affordable products, located in six countries in the Europe. The retail chain offers consumer goods, from household and entertainment products to electronic equipment, toys and cosmetic products. A third of the assortment is purchased from business partners from Germany and other EU member states.

According to the company, particular care is given to environmental protection, and in 2010 they were among the first in this industry to build a TEDi outlet in Moordorf in Germany which is in accordance with the strict requirements of the GreenBuilding Programme of the European Commission. This implies the more efficient use of energy, i.e. the use of modern technology in environmental protection and the use of renewable energy sources for lighting and air conditioning.

After that, they switched their company headquarters in Dortmund to green energy supply, and later the same approach of using of photovoltaic power became the standard for all TEDi’s outlets. They are also one of the members of the German Trade Association (HDE), under which they are committed to reducing the use of plastic bags in the markets where they operate.

At the beginning of the year, the Austrian Supernova Group started with a major acquisition drive, taking over Garden Mall in Zagreb, retail parks in Koprivnica and Sisak, and a retail park in Požega, which is still in the project phase. In addition, they also took over the Cvjetni Centar.

With this takeovers, the group which owns and operates facilities in Zagreb, Buzin, Zadar, Šibenik, Karlovac, Sisak, Varaždin and Slavonski Brod, has become the leading company in Croatia by the number of shopping centres in ownership.
