In one Slavonian town, 200 houses are put on sale. The asking prices are quite low, to say the least.
For those looking for a cheap house, it seems that Slavonia might be an answer. A young couple recently looking for their dream house said that in the town of Đakovo there are many houses where those in the market for a new home can move in right away. “We were very surprised! There are so many family homes on the market available right away. We are still looking into several options. We have to consider the school proximity… and we would like to have a house in some quiet part of the town”, reports Poslovni.hr on March 7, 2016.
Vlado Rechner, who works in the real estate business, confirmed their story. Currently, there are 200 houses on the market and the prices are, in his words, unbelievably low. “Before the economic crisis, the construction sites in Đakovo were being sold for 20,000-25,000 euros or even 30,000 euros, whereas now you can buy an entire house for 20,000-30,000 euros and you can move in immediately”, he said. The reasons people are selling their homes vary, he added.
“Some are out of work, so they are leaving town and selling their houses. Some ran out of money and this is something they have to do, while some are selling the homes they inherited. Maintaining a house costs money and some people cannot keep up with the expenses. That is the reason why they are now selling”, he explained and noted that only rare houses are offered at the prices higher than 50,000 euros.
Rechner said that apartments are being sold as well, mostly those in older buildings, but that people prefer the newly constructed ones. There is one new building with apartments in the very centre of the town and there is interest from buyers but, according to Rechner, banks are not allowing the sales to go through, so not a lot of apartments can be sold.
