Zvijezda Expands to South Korean Market

Three Zvijezda products will be available in South Korean supermarkets.

The products of Zvijezda have recently become available in the South Korean market. Hot Ketchup (500 g), Ultra Hot Ketchup (500 g) and Ultra Hot Chilli Mayonnaise (400 g) are now available on the shelves of one of the largest South Korean retail chains – Lotte, reports Poslovni.hr on 21 July 2017.

Lotte is a multinational corporation and the eighth largest business conglomerate in South Korea, with core business activities in the food and trade sector. It includes 60 companies operating in more than 15 countries and employing 180,000 employees. Exports and distribution in South Korea have been realized in cooperation with the global leader in the development of private brands for retailers Daymon Worldwide, and the products are available in about a hundred of Lotte hypermarkets.

“We are very proud that Zvijezda mayonnaise and ketchup have found their way to South Korean consumers, and most of all, that we were able to adapt our traditional recipes to their taste. Traditional recipes for ketchup and mayonnaise have been specially adapted for the eastern market, to a more spicier flavour because local consumers prefer such food. The South Korean market, with as many as 50 million people, is an enormous export potential for Croatian products. We are very pleased that Lotte has recognised the quality and strength of Zvijezda and the fact that we have been able to meet the exceptionally high standards it requires. South Korea is currently among the top nine export markets for the European Union, and we have the desire to export and sell other products from the Zvijezda range in the country,” said Krešimir Staničić, the trading director of Zvijezda.

Zvijezda’s primary export markets are the countries in the region, especially Bosnia and Herzegovina and Slovenia, where the company has traditionally been present for many years. In 2016, Zvijezda achieved 6.6% growth in all export markets. The increase in international sales is in line with the stronger export orientation of Zvijezda, which resulted, amongst other successes, in the export expansion to the South Korean market.

Zvijezda’s business plan is aimed at strengthening competitiveness in Croatia and expanding business activities in other countries. In the forthcoming period, Zvijezda will continue with a business strategy focused on the growth of foreign sales and expansion to new markets.
