August the 26th, 2024 – Central Zagreb is set to get a brand new underground garage boasting 800 parking spaces over three levels.
The City of Zagreb has struggled with space for cars for a very long time now, with bikes, pedestrians and cars all typically trying to cram onto the same already thin street, and parking spaces becoming difficult to find throughout the year, with the exception of the height of summer when the capital is all but abandoned for the coast.
A brand new Central Zagreb garage should help to further relieve the capital city’s traffic and parking issues going forward, as the city’s administration has revealed.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, steps have been taken and a designer has finally been selected to create the conceptual, main and executive project for the construction of a public underground Central Zagreb garage. The future construction will span three floors and boast an impressive 800 parking spaces, the City of Zagreb announced.
“The justification of building a new underground garage in Klaićeva has never been disputed, but we’re the ones who will realise that project, as well as numerous others that Zagreb has been waiting for for years and in some cases decades now. With these new 800 parking spaces, we will significantly increase the capacity of public garages in Central Zagreb,” revealed Mayor Tomislav Tomašević.
In addition to the new Central Zagreb underground garage, there are also plans in the works to arrange a sports field above it, with new fields for athletics, football, basketball, handball and other similar sports.
The deadline for this project stands at nine months, and the expected start of construction is scheduled for autumn 2025.
