June 17, 2023 – Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević and President of the Management Board of Končar-Električna vozila d.d. Josip Ninić signed a contract for the delivery of 20 new low-floor trams for the Zagreb transport company ZET. The new Zagreb trams look like a redesign of an older model, but come with certain novelties.

As Index writes, the new Zagreb trams will be 20.8 meters long with four doors and a capacity of 115 passengers. They will have air conditioning systems, ramps for easy access for disabled people and cameras at each door. In addition, they should have USB ports for mobile devices.

The total value of the signed contract amounts to EUR 47,225,000. Of that, EUR 37,780,000is the cost of purchasing 20 new Zagreb trams, while the remaining EUR 9,445,000 is VAT. Acceptable cost is to be fully financed from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. On the other hand, unacceptable cost refers to VAT and these funds will be provided from the City budget.

procedure to Procure another 100 Zagreb trams Started

The deadline for delivery of the first tram is a maximum of 24 months from the date of signing the contract. The last tram must be delivered no later than December 15, 2025.

The Mayor emphasized this as a great step forward, but also announced that he hopes that procedures will soon be initiated for the procurement of more new Zagreb trams. He also hopes to procure around 100 new buses on alternative fuels.

“Although the deadline for delivery is two years, I hope that the first trams will arrive sooner. And while we are waiting for the new trams, we will also announce a tender for the purchase of around 10 used trams. For the reliability of the timetable it is very important that we replenish the fleet as soon as possible”, said Tomašević.

New Tracks

“I hope that our fellow citizens will be happy with the choice with these modern city vehicles. However, this is only the beginning. Our long-term goal is to purchase another 60 new trams,” said the president of the ZET Management Board, Marko Bogdanović. He also announced the gradual transition of buses to alternative fuels and the construction of new tram lines in Heinzelova and Sarajevska streets.

The President of the Management Board of Končar, Gordan Kolak, emphasized that by winning this tender, Croatian industry showed that it has the knowledge and strength to be better than the competition in the production of high-tech products.

“Thank you to ZET and Zagreb for choosing our company. This is a strong reference for export to the foreign market. There is no export if there are no business opportunities in Croatia for locals,” said Kolak.
