June the 26th, 2026 – Croatia and Canada are set to deepen cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, with the two countries exploring opportunities for collaboration.

The two nations on each side of the vast Atlantic Ocean will seek deeper cooperation involving technology, expertise, and the peaceful use of nuclear power.

Poslovni reports that the very welcome partnership comes as both countries look to strengthen energy security and develop low-carbon energy solutions. Canada has long been involved in nuclear research and technology, including the development of CANDU reactor technology, while nuclear power remains an important part of Canada’s electricity mix.

The cooperation is expected to focus on knowledge exchange, technical expertise, safety standards, and potential future projects connected with nuclear energy. Similar international nuclear partnerships have increasingly included cooperation on research, regulation, training, and advanced reactor technologies.

For Croatia, the move comes as the country examines ways to strengthen its long-term energy independence and expand its role in the regional energy market. Nuclear energy discussions are closely linked to the future of the wider Central European energy system, where existing nuclear capacity and new technologies such as small modular reactors are gaining attention.

The Croatian-Canadian cooperation marks another step in expanding bilateral ties beyond traditional trade and diplomacy, with energy and technology becoming an increasingly important area of partnership.
