Croatian Government: New Package of Measures Coming Soon

September the 6th, 2026 – The Croatian Government is currently preparing to present a new autumn package of measures, with nuclear energy part of the discussion.

Croatia has taken a new step towards the possible construction of a nuclear power plant. Ana Blaskovic reports for Poslovni that on Friday, the Croatian Government tasked the Ministry of Economy with launching a structured information procedure and talks with potential suppliers of nuclear technologies and partner countries. Concrete and comparable information will be requested from them on available technologies, technical characteristics and economic conditions.

The process is currently non-binding and does not represent a decision to build a power plant, the government emphasises. However, among the technologies that will be considered are small modular and advanced modular reactors. After the talks, the Ministry will consolidate the collected data and submit a report to the Government. Prime Minister Andrej Plenković announced that at the next session, the government will present the autumn package of measures to mitigate the consequences of the energy crisis for the general public and the economy. The package comes after inflation accelerated to 4.1 percent in August, primarily due to the rise in energy prices, which increased by 17.4 percent on an annual basis.

The government currently expects the upcoming autumn measures to mitigate the impact of energy price increases caused by the crisis still going on over in the Middle East. In addition, through amendments to the Crafts Act, those with crafts will be somewhat financially relieved as chamber contributions will be reduced from two to 1.5 percent of the basic personal allowance, and a novelty is the introduction of status innovations such as the institute of family crafts.
