Total Croatia News

January 28, 2018 – The dead hunter was with two other Croatian hunters when he was shot, reports South African media.

A 75-year-old Croatian has been shot dead while on a lion trophy hunting expedition. Named as Pero Jelinic by News 24, which broke the story, Jelinic and two Croatian colleagues had already killed one lion and were tracking a second when he was shot by unknown assailants.

“He was air-lifted to Vryburg Hospital by helicopter, but doctors were unable to save the man’s life. A case of culpable homicide has been opened, and police are also investigating charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition,” said police spokesperson Captain Charlize van der Linden.

“At this stage it is not clear who fired the fatal shot that killed Mr Jelinic. Our investigations are ongoing.”

The incident happened as they were hunting captive-bred lions at Leeubosch Lodge near Setlagole.

Details are still sketchy, and this is the only news report on the incident at the moment. More as we get it.
